The papers consist chiefly of letters and receipts as well as a statement and a memoranda, primarily of Lewis, concerning the management of George Washington's estate particularly the sale, rental and taxation of his land. Other topics include the shipment of Madeira wine, land management in Virginia and Kentucky, financial matters, family news, a runaway slave, and a potential sale of the land of Bushrod Corbin Washington to satisfy a debt.
